Paolo Bornello founded the architectural firm Bornelloworkshop in the mid-Nineties. His design experience over the years has been broad in scope, generating a pluralistic and composite architectural production, which ranges from architectural design to restoration to product design, but is always distinguished by precise and particular elements: the importance of the initial constraints and the desire to identify the specificity of each project, above and beyond mere stylistic experimentation.
The clean simplicity of the image, the beauty of the construction, the attention to detail and materials are the basic principles of his works, as is the respect for the context. Architecture must be a sign, not as a scratch on the territory. Architecture can never forego an ethical point of view, understood as the consideration of the relational, cultural and human elements underlying the project.
His latest works and works in progress include: the interior design of the new headquarters of UNINDUSTRIA TREVISO, the industrial association of Treviso, which recently moved into the Appiani complex in Treviso, for which the primary concept was the domesticity of the office space and the focus on the image of the association; the PARCO G.UNGARETTI near Gorizia, in which a historic garden was restored and revitalized in a project built around the poems of Ungaretti; the new NINO FRANCO SPUMANTI SRL winery designed according to the most up-to-date criteria of sustainability in collaboration with the engineering firm ARUP ITALIA SRL. In 1998 the firm won the LUIGI COSENZA NATIONAL AWARD and the PREMIO DI ARCHITETTURA CITTA’-TERRITORIO CITTA’ DI ODERZO. In 2007 the Sammartini Tomb was selected by the jury of the competition LUOGHI DI VALORE promoted by the Fondazione Benetton Studi e Ricerche. In 2010 the project for the Parco Ungaretti was exhibited at the 12th Architecture Biennale in Venice, while in 2011 VILLA MANIN in Udine hosted an exhibition entitled “The Carso is so longer hell: a park dedicated to Giuseppe Ungaretti”. Also in 2011 Paolo Bornello was invited by UNESCO to lecture at the workshop entitled “Culture and development in Venice: from restoration to revitalization”.
