Schio (VI)

Feasibility Study

The project is for the construction of a small apartment and retail building to be built on a corner lot with two contiguous blind edges, a lot located in front of a public park in a residential area adjacent to the historic centre of Schio. The initial idea called for an “upscale building” with elevated standards of livability in terms of services, light, tranquility, tone, etc. For this reason the hypothesis was to deconstruct the corner into voids and solids by means of transparencies and hollows (loggias, terraces, large windows, stepping back etc.): the two fronts penetrate one into the other in a “negative” corner thanks to the dynamics of a volume within a volume thus trying to open up towards the green of the park and the natural light in a powerful dialectic of light and shadow and spaces that act as a filter between the inside and the outside. The materials are then used to underscore this vocation: walls clad in Napoleon cleftstone and laid down ad opus incertum, loggias paneled in wood, large windows with corten steel frames to give greater rhythm to the facade.
