Negrar (VR)

Competition

The project is based on the idea of creating a winery that is a cultural, scientific, manufacturing and commercial laboratory; in this sense, it makes reference to the great nineteenth-century factories. Furthermore, by its very nature, the winery makes it possible to work on deeply-rooted archetypes (earth, stone, wood, smell, semi-darkness, silence, etc..) and in this sense, the project seeks an elementary syntax that relies on a number of conceptually simple but peremptory architectural elements: exposed concrete walls finished in a stone pattern, the great wood portal, the strongly cantilevered canopy, 15 meters long, that also serves as a large courtyard and/or covered open space for processing the grapes, even in bad weather. The circulation route is the thread that connects all the project areas: the ramp with the large entrance space (reception and showroom) distributes the circulation to the offices and the laboratories located above the fermentation tanks (which may be viewed from above), then through to the large warehouse space and into the tasting room with a scenic view. From there it leads to the Fruit Orchard and then to the Wine Museum and the sensory Media Library overlooking the garden. The choice is then to continue the visit through the existing part, or return to the entrance area through the Fruit Orchard. The large roof features photo-voltaic panels that will make the winery self-sufficient for its energy.
